When Clayton and Jeffrey first matched on Hinge, they couldn’t have known their love story would one day dance its way through the cobbled streets of San Miguel de Allende. But from a marathon first date over Oaxacan cuisine to a proposal among friends in Oaxaca, it was clear early on: Mexico had their hearts—and was destined to host their wedding too. Their San Miguel de Allende disco wedding was a dazzling blend of heartfelt moments, custom style, and a dance floor that never quit.

“We fell in love with San Miguel de Allende over a tour de Mexico a few years back,” says Clayton. “The architecture, history, gastronomy, markets, galleries, and people just have an unavoidable allure to both of us. That’s why we keep going back!”

A Destination Steeped in Style and Meaning

San Miguel de Allende, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, became the obvious choice for this design-loving duo (Jeffrey studied architectural history, and Clayton works in luxury real estate). They hosted their intimate weekend-long celebration at Casa Cariño, which served as both their wedding venue and home base. “It made everything so much easier logistically—and created a sense of intimacy throughout the weekend,” Jeffrey shares. “The architecture of the house had a serene, almost chapel-like feel that gave the ceremony a sense of quiet reverence.”Collage of a wedding venue with ornate decor: tropical floral arrangements, circular ceiling, elegant chairs, a flower-adorned fireplace, and two men in white jackets and black bow ties.

And let’s talk about that ceremony. Officiated by their best friend, with their fathers standing proudly beside them as best men, it was both deeply personal and beautifully symbolic. “We wrote our own vows, which allowed us to speak directly from the heart,” says Jeffrey. “It was one of the most emotional and memorable parts of the day.”

The music added a perfect personal touch too, from acoustic renditions of “Oh Shenandoah” and “The Yellow Rose of Texas” to their recessional, “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The ceremony ended with the phrase “bonded for life”—a poignant tribute to their journey.

Let There Be Disco

But let’s get one thing straight: while the vows were heartfelt, this wedding was also a party.

The theme? Jungle Disco Extravaganza. Yes, really.

“We’re both obsessed with Kylie Minogue’s song Magic, which was our first dance,” says Clayton. “We took 12 dance lessons for our choreographed disco number—and our whippet dog is also named Disco, so it felt right.” Naturally, they switched from their sleek ivory and black tuxedos to bold custom disco jackets from Poland to match the vibe (and survive the dance floor).

The floral design was just as dramatic. “We told our florist and planner: jungle meets disco meets RuPaul’s Drag Race,” laughs Jeffrey. And boy, did they deliver—think palms, pampas grass, bird of paradise, and 36 disco balls glittering under the tent.

From Tennis Whites to Pink Soup

The festivities kicked off with a rooftop “Fiesta en Blanco” welcome party and a lively callejoneada through the park with oversized puppets and a mariachi band. That morning? A tennis match at the Rosewood San Miguel, naturally. “That’s why we were both sunburned at the ceremony,” Clayton admits. “Huge lesson learned, but totally worth it!”

The reception meal, catered by Penzi Weddings, showcased Mexico’s culinary brilliance. “Penzi is a very gastronomy-driven wedding and events planner with an in-house chef,” the couple remarks. “The wedding tasting was unbelievable.” See their menu below to find out what dishes they went with to highlight the flavors of San Miguel. A Wedding with Heart (and LED Robots)

If you’re still wondering whether the party lived up to the hype, here’s a visual: LED robots, cirque performers on stilts, a keytar player on the dance floor, and a full-on light show courtesy of The Maquesh Show. “We told them ‘no slow songs’—we wanted a full-blown dance party,” says Jeffrey.

And they got it.

The weekend crescendoed from heartfelt moments to all-night dancing, surrounded by their closest friends and family. “There was something so special about our loved ones dancing through the park and colorful streets of San Miguel all dressed in white,” Clayton reflects.

Wedding Wisdom

Planning from afar? The couple credits their wedding planner and local friends with making everything run smoothly. “Trust the process and lean on the experts,” says Jeffrey. “Our job was to stay focused on the experience and the meaning of the day—not the minute details.”

And if there’s one thing they proved, it’s this: with a little vision, a lot of trust, and a great Kylie Minogue track, your destination wedding can be as heartfelt as it is unforgettable.
